“Open and Affirming”! In some denominations, this is an official designation earned by churches who have followed a process to achieve that statues. In other denominations, there’s a bit more guesswork. Here’s what it means for some of the denominations represented in our list of affirming churches.
The DOC denomination is open and affirming, but its congregations vary. Some of them might be perfectly friendly to LGBTQ+ people, but they have not taken the time to go through the OnA process. Others may be openly hostile. Others are in between. In our list, all of the DOC churches have gone through the process and are officially Open and Affirming.
